CREW V. U.S. DEPARTMENT OF HOMELAND SECURITY (CHERTOFF CALENDARS)

12 Dec 2007 // Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) sued the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) for failing to fulfill a CREW Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request for documents relating to the secretary of the DHS’ communication with the White House and other agencies. Rather than comply with the FOIA request for documents, the DHS demanded a fee from CREW, then failed to respond to CREW’s fee waiver appeal as required under FOIA. CREW sued in August of 2007 seeking DHS compliance with the FOIA and release of the requested secretary’s communication and related records.
