23 May 2007 // Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) filed suit against the Department of Education (DOE) after learning that the DOE was allowing its employees to conduct official business using outside email addresses, in violation of the Federal Records Act (FRA). In its suit, CREW argues that this policy ignores the FRA’s requirement that federal records be archived, and denies CREW access to the documents that they would otherwise have through the Freedom of Information Act.
